2024 Honda e:Ny1 Overview: The HR-V Goes Fully Electric

Honda's electric vehicle onslaught is shaping up nicely. We already know that the automaker has nine new EVs on the way based on recent trademark filings, and one of them is the e:Ny1. Shown only in prototype form this far, the e:Ny1 shares its modern, coupe-like styling with the European version of the latest Honda HR-V. The e:Ny1's fully electric powertrain and positioning in the market mean that it'll face off against electric rivals like the Hyundai Kona Electric. The big question is whether the e:Ny1 will make it stateside and join the bigger Prologue electric SUV which has already been confirmed for the local market. This is unlikely since the USA is set to get its very own next-gen HR-V with a totally bespoke design and hybrid powertrains. Still, the e:Ny1 is an exciting preview of Honda's EV-only future.

When Is The Honda e:Ny1 Coming Out?

The Honda e:Ny1's release date has been scheduled for 2023 in Europe, presumably as a 2024 model. If it comes to the USA, it may only reach our shores sometime in 2024.

What’s The Price Of The 2024 e:Ny1?

The 2024 Honda e:Ny1's price has not yet been revealed by the automaker. However, the new HR-V hybrid sold across the pond starts at a cost of £27,960 (around $36,800) in the UK. Based on that, the fully electric e:Ny1 is likely to begin at over $40,000 MSRP.

New Honda e:Ny1 Exterior And Colors

It's no secret that the 2024 e:Ny1 is essentially a fully electric version of the European Honda HR-V. The two crossovers share strikingly similar styling features like slim headlights, an angular, sloping roofline, and rear door handles that are integrated into the C-pillar. However, the Honda e:Ny1's exterior doesn't have a traditional grille and the front Honda logo is illuminated, although this feature may be limited to the prototype. At the back, there's a full-length LED light bar and the rear window is dramatically angled; this looks great but will likely eat into cargo space a bit. Still, it's a fresh-looking design and much more interesting than the current HR-V sold in the US.

The Honda e:Ny1's colors haven't been revealed yet, but it has been photographed in silver. We expect a much more comprehensive palette when it goes on sale.

Honda e:Ny1 Dimensions

The Honda e:Ny1's dimensions should closely match the European HR-V. That crossover has a length of 170.9 inches, a width of 70.5 inches, and a height of 62.3 inches. In the UK, the base HR-V has a starting curb weight of just over 3,000 pounds, but the e:Ny1 will likely be a lot heavier due to the dense battery pack.

Honda e:Ny1 Engine And Performance

Honda has not revealed powertrain specifications for the e:Ny1. However, what is essentially the same vehicle is being sold in China as the e:NS1 (by Dongfeng Honda) and e:NP1 (GAC Honda). In that market, the battery-electric crossover will produce up to 201 horsepower from its single electric motor. A less powerful 180-hp variant is also offered. The 201-hp output exactly matches the Hyundai Kona Electric, a vehicle that can go from 0-60 mph around 6.5 seconds. That's the level of performance Honda will need to match if the e:Ny1 is sold here.

Range, Charging, And Battery Life

Based on the China-only e:NS1 and e:NP1's specs, the new Honda e:Ny1 crossover should come with a 68.8-kWh battery pack with a range of 311 miles on a full charge. That's based on China's CLTC cycle, however, so EPA ratings are likely to be closer to 250 miles. With rapid charging, the battery can be replenished to 80% in about 30 minutes.

With rising gas prices and intense scrutiny on mpg ratings, the compact e:Ny1 full electric crossover should be affordable to run.

Honda e:Ny1 Interior And Cargo

Images of the China-specific e:NS1 and e:NP1 cabins give us a great idea of what the e:Ny1's interior will look like. Those crossovers sport a massive 15.2-inch portrait-style touchscreen interface and a digital gauge cluster inside, features that should transfer to the Honda e:Ny1's interior. This reliance on a huge touchscreen is quite a dramatic departure from Honda's current lineup, but it's expected with the transition to EVs where technology often dominates.

It also looks like the Honda e:Ny1's seats will come with attractive stitching and contrast piping. As it's quite a compact vehicle, don't expect a third seating row. The European HR-V hybrid only has around 11 cubic feet of cargo space, so we'll have to see if the Honda e:Ny1's trunk space is any better, although that's unlikely.
