Subcompact:

• EcoSport - With either a 123-horsepower 1.0-liter turbo-three or a 166-hp two-liter four-cylinder engine at its heart, performance from the subcompact isn’t for thrillseekers. A small SUV from Ford, this five-seater is the automaker’s most affordable offering from the segment. Impressively, the little cruiser is surprisingly practical with up to 50 cubic feet of cargo hauling potential and a maximum towing capacity of 1,400-2,000-pounds, outclassing many of its competitors in both arenas.

Small/Compact:

• Escape - Available as either a gasoline-powered or hybrid vehicle, this compact Ford crossover can be had with either a 1.5L turbo-three, 2.0LT four-pot, or with a 2.5L inline-four semi-electric mill. Depending on the setup, this slight trooper is able to haul up to 3,500-lbs and has 30.7 to 65.4 cu.-ft. of storage leeway.
• Bronco Sport - Playing off the revival of its big brother, this compact ute will be run by either a 180 hp 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbo or a 250 hp 2.0T EcoBoost. Unibody in construction, it’ll be a more hardcore alternative to the Escape.

Midsize:

• Edge - There are three fundamentally similar trims, all of which carry the same two-L turbo-four. The crossover is favored as an exceptional all-rounder, with loads of passenger room, 39.2 to 73.4 cu.-ft. to carrying things, and 3,500-lbs pulling potential.
• Edge ST - A true jack-of-all-trades, the athletic ST carries all the creature comforts, safety measures, and sensibilities of the base version, only doubling down on the performance side of things. A 2.7L twin-turbo V6 and aptly-tuned suspension bring the color to its straight-line acceleration and corner smashing dynamics.
• Bronco - The familiar terrain alpinist, sharing a platform with the Ranger truck, returns for the 2020 model year to challenge the Jeep Wrangler as a dedicated 4x4 off-roader. The old Ford Bronco, back when video was shot in only black and white, used to be a very capable rock climber, too. However, the latest Ford 4x4 Bronco promises to surpass it.
• Mustang Mach-E - Pure electric performance isn’t common for the manufacturer, but the Mach-E is its first real step into the realm of EV. Five grades comprise the 2021 roster, making use of two powertrains: a standard range 75.7 kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed limit of 230 miles, and an extended range 98.8 kWh lithium-ion unit boasting a 300-mile limit on a single charge. Large/Full-Size:

With a wheelbase of 122.5 inches, there’s three-row seating for eight, while still having a usable 20.9 cubic-foot behind the rear bench.
• Expedition Max - If the regular variant wasn’t big enough, then the Max, with its 9.1-inch longer wheelbase should do. With the extra length, this derivative supplies a tangible increase in occupant volume and 13.2 cubic feet more storage volume, leaving it as the best option for avid vacationers. The top-tier Platinum is fitted with a dialed-up version of the EcoBoost six-cylinder mill found throughout the rest of the lineup.
