Ken Block Teases Mystery Ram Truck In The Coolest Way Possible

Teaser / 11 Comments

Is this new truck more powerful than the Ram TRX?

With the upcoming Ford F-150 Raptor R reportedly set to offer the same 5.2-liter supercharged Predator V8 found in the Shelby GT500, Ram must do everything in its power to maintain dominance in the escalating high-power pickup truck way. Not counting the electric GMC Hummer and Rivian R1T, the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX currently sits at the top of the horsepower food chain with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. That's more than enough for most buyers, but Ram CEO Mike Koval has already hinted that a more extreme Ram TRX is on its way.

Perhaps that explains the most recent teaser from legendary rally driver Ken Block. Block recently posted a video on his Twitter account, showing him doing sand donuts in a new Ram truck. "I did some dirt donuts in a rad new truck," he said. "Ram Trucks gave me their newest toy to test out in the desert. More on that when this new spec launches Tuesday at 9am PT."

Ram Trucks retweeted Block's video with the looking eyes emoji and no other commentary. All will be revealed tomorrow, but we can safely assume based on the audio that this is some kind of Ram 1500 TRX variant. We can clearly hear a V8 exhaust note mixed with the whine from a supercharger. The top-down video also clearly looks like a TRX with the bulged hood and wide fenders. Since the video was shot in black and white, there's no way to tell what color the truck is painted. The TRX Ignition Edition was finished in bright orange, so we know subtlety isn't Ram's forte.

As we mentioned, Ram has already said it would like to offer more power. That 6.2-liter supercharged V8 produces nearly 800 hp in the Hellcat Redeye products, so there's plenty of room for the TRX to bulk up. Ram already offers 35-inch tires as standard, but Ford now offers 37-inch rubber on its F-150 Raptor. Not to be outdone by the Blue Oval, we imagine Ram will offer a larger tire size. We didn't think the TRX could get any crazier, but stranger things have happened.
