New Chinese Car Is A Gorgeous Concept With A Silly Name

The Next Day ushers in a new design direction for Lynk & Co.

Geely's premium subsidiary Lynk & Co has debuted a striking concept called The Next Day. Peculiar naming aside, the newcomer is a beautifully styled motorcar which, says the company, introduces a fresh design direction for the automaker. The company shared images of the dramatic-looking grand tourer on Weibo, where it notes The Next Day is powered by Lynk E-Motive technology, the company's hybrid setup.

However, CarNewsChina.com has gleaned further insights into the futuristic beauty, noting there are two drivetrain options. The first, as mentioned, is a conventional hybrid system but a plug-in hybrid drivetrain can also be slotted in underneath the sleek sheet metal.

Billed as a "new energy" car, The Next Day retains styling cues first seen on models such as the Lynk & Co. 09 luxury SUV. The signature headlights have been reimagined for the future, appearing as two recessed light strips on the front facia.

At the rear, it's a similar story. The fashionable light bar has been tailored for a more futuristic look. The overall design is far sportier than anything the company has released before, and there are definite hints of the Jaguar F-Type. This can be seen in the rear, where the lightbar and sloping roofline contribute to the visual drama.

The elaborate butterfly-cum-suicide doors are the most distinctive feature and, if this concept makes it to production, we're confident those doors won't make it to the final product. We're guessing the solid piece of glass acting as The Next Day's roof won't either but, for now, it serves an actual function in terms of in-car technology.

Step inside and you'll be greeted by an inviting mix of futuristic design elements and first-class luxury. Blue is a recurring theme within a cabin, with the seats, dashboard, and door cards upholstered in this soothing hue.

The slim bucket seats appear to be trimmed in a decadent velvet material and work nicely with the metal touches littered across the cabin. The steering wheel appears to have drawn inspiration from Tesla's controversial Yoke design but it's not the most interesting feature to be found within the interior.

The Next Day is capable of autonomous driving and, when engaged, occupants can fully recline and hand off responsibilities to the GT. With nothing to do, the relaxed passengers can entertain themselves with the onboard technology - the massive glass roof turns into an immersive head-up display with 3D graphics.

It's very unlikely to make it into production as is, but with a name change and toned-down styling, it could make for one impressive grand tourer. For now, the company continues to work on offerings such as the 03, which recently received a sporting addition to the lineup.
