Porsche Celebrates America With New 911 GTS Special Edition

Reveal / 7 Comments

It only comes as a convertible with a manual transmission.

Porsche is a fan of creating special edition models that honor certain countries. Recent examples include the 911 Belgian Legend Edition and Taycan GTS Hockenheimring Edition, named after Germany's second most famous track. But what about a special edition to celebrate America? The last time Porsche released a car like that was the 964-generation 1992 Porsche 911 America Roadster; before that, it was the 1952 356 America Roadster. To pay homage to these creations, the folks at Stuttgart just revealed a new creation called the 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America Edition at the 2022 Porsche Parade in Poconos, Pennsylvania.

Only 115 will be built (100 going to the US and 15 to Canada), making the drop-top America Edition one of the rarest 992 models. The car joins a series of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur vehicles, including the 911 Sport Classic and Targa 4S Heritage Edition.

Though it's not any quicker than a standard GTS, the America Edition is set apart by its Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur design. The car comes in a special Azure Blue 356 hue that's not available on any other 911. Of course, buyers can choose nearly any other color they want through the Paint To Sample program. Azure Blue is pretty cool though, and pairs well with the white and red accents throughout the car. This is the American Patriot's 911.

Other America Edition-specific touches include a Satin Black windshield frame, RS Spyder Design Wheels finished in white and silver with a Guards Red pinstripe, "America" side decals, and a two-color "911 Carrera GTS" badge on the rear deck lid. Porsche says this is the first time it's ever offered a three-color wheel and a two-color badge on a production model. Some of these touches will eventually become available for standard models, though Porsche would like to keep them exclusive for a certain period.

The America Edition is based on a GTS Cabriolet, meaning it packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Porsche will only offer this special edition with rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed manual transmission, with the 0-60 mph sprint clocked at 4.1 seconds. All of the other GTS goodies, such as Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) Sport with lowered ride height, Sport Exhaust, Sport Chrono Package, and six-piston front brakes, are included as standard. Buyers can add Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes and rear-axle steering if they choose.

Stepping into the America Edition, you will spot a special door sill denoting the 70th anniversary of the 356 America Roadster and the 40th anniversary of the 964 America Roadster. The interior is adorned in Guards Red and Pebble Grey cross stitching, matching the red accents on the exterior while adding some contrast in the whole American colors theme. The word "America" is embossed in the armrest leather as a special touch.

Buyers who want even more color can opt for the extended interior package, which adds a Guards Red 12 o'clock marking on the steering wheel plus cross stitching, two-tone stitching on the shifter, a red gear pattern, Sport Seats Plus with 911 stitched in the headrests, red leather backrest release loops, and two-tone floor mats. The key fob is painted to match the exterior while the key pouch uses the same two-tone stitching an "America" embossing.

The 2023 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America arrives with a starting MSRP of $184,920 (excluding a $1,450 delivery fee). For reference, a standard 911 GTS Cabriolet costs $149,500, so this America Edition comes with a hefty $35,420 premium for its exclusivity.

With the extended interior package, that price goes up to $192,430. The car will arrive at US and Canadian showrooms in late 2022, and we have no doubt Porsche will sell all 115, likely above the sticker price.
