Thieves Steal Over $1 Million Worth Of Ford F-150 Raptors

The off-road pickup seems to be a hot commodity.

If you're in the security business, you may want to offer your services to Ford. Back in December, the automaker's Flat Rock Assembly Plant was targeted by thieves who made off with four Mustang Shelby GT500s. That ordeal was repeated last week when a handful of GT500s were again stolen from the same site. And if that wasn't enough, numerous news agencies are now reporting that almost $1 million worth of 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor pickups were stolen from a Dearborn Truck Plant storage lot earlier this month. The mass theft was reported by Ford on June 10, and police have already made headway in the investigation.

Dearborn police have reportedly already recovered 13 of the stolen vehicles over the past couple of weeks, with most of them found in Detroit and a couple in Dearborn. "There was evidence of fences being rammed," said Dearborn city spokesman Bilal Baydoun. "When they [the trucks] were recovered, you could see signs of damage and some things stripped away, tires, that kind of thing. They were in various states of disrepair." He went on to explain that the investigation is ongoing and that one arrest has been made so far.

A tally of how many trucks were stolen is yet to be made public, but if news outlets are reporting close to a million bucks worth, working off a base price of just under $70,000 leads us to assume that fewer than 15 trucks were stolen, and we can infer that most have been recovered.

Another major theft from a Ford facility is cause for concern, but the Blue Oval is not the only automaker to be affected by this spate of car crime. A number of Stellantis lots around Detroit were targeted earlier this year, and in May, a Chevrolet Camaro was stolen from a Lansing plant. Clearly, crime in Michigan's automotive hubs is a serious problem, and in these times of supply chain turmoil, added delays are wholly unwelcome. Hopefully, the arrest of one of the individuals implicated in this recent Raptor case will lead to clues that can help prevent this from becoming such a prevalent problem in the area.
