2021 Chevrolet Traverse Getting Two Sporty Special Editions

Design / 5 Comments

People won't stop buying Chevy's sporty SUVs.

Chevrolet may not offer any performance SUVs that rival the Dodge Durango Hellcat or Ford Edge ST, but customers seem to be more than pleased by the company's range of sporty Midnight, Sport, and RS trims. These special packages are currently available on various models, including the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox and Silverado. Chevy says customers love these special editions so much that it will expand their availability for 2021.

"Customer choice is a competitive advantage for Chevrolet," said Steve Majoros, vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. "Special editions and unique trims allow us to offer customers the custom look they want straight from the factory. This helps us get more customers interested in our vehicles, which in turn can help Chevrolet grow sales volume, market share, and revenue. It's a win-win for everyone."

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse will now offer both the Midnight Edition and Sport Edition packages. The Midnight Edition is available on the LS and LT trims, adding Mosaic Black paint, black badging, and black accents. The Sport Edition comes on the same trim levels, keeping the black accents but opening up other color options. With the addition of the Traverse, Chevy now offers the Midnight Edition and Sport Edition packages on half of its SUV models. On the Trax, these packages account for one in five sold, proving their popularity.

Chevy will continue to sell other sporty trim levels, including the RS models. The Equinox gains the RS trim for the 2021 model year, and Chevy says one in three Blazers and one of four Trailblazers sold are the RS-specification. Chevy has also found success with its Redline Edition models, which span the company's car, truck, and SUV lineups. In fact, Chevy says that 85% of all Redline Edition sales come from its SUV portfolio, and nearly 60% of Traverse Premium buyers opt for the Redline Package.

It's a clever tactic from GM, targeting the craze of SUVs and pairing it with people's desire to stand apart from the crowd. It seems to be paying off, too. Now, if only Chevrolet would give us a proper muscle SUV.
