2022 Chevrolet Equinox Gets A Price Increase

Despite this, the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox offers better value.

The Chevrolet Equinox facelift was unveiled last year at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, where it debuted with sportier styling inspired by the Blazer and Camaro. Originally, the refreshed Equinox was going to launch for the 2021 model year, but factory shutdowns caused by the pandemic forced Chevrolet to delay the launch until the 2022 model year.

As a result, the 2020 model was carried over to 2021. Over a year after its debut, the Equinox will finally arrive in US dealers in Q3 this year. Before then, Chevrolet has announced the all-important pricing details, confirming that the 2022 model will have a higher entry cost.

For 2022, the Chevrolet Equinox will start at $26,995, which is $2,000 more expensive than the 2021 model. There's a good reason for the price increase, however, because Chevrolet has dropped the entry-level L model for 2022, meaning the LS is now the base model. In fact, the 2022 LS is $600 cheaper than the 2021 model, so it's arguably better value than the outgoing Equinox.

The generously-equipped LT will set you back $28,095, a $700 reduction compared to last year, while the Premier trim gets a $500 reduction, starting at $32,195. Replacing the entry-level L trim is the new sporty Equinox RS. Starting at $31,295, the RS trim is distinguished by its blacked-out appearance package and black leather interior. All prices include the $1,195 destination charge.

Visually, the 2022 Equinox has been updated with a new grille similar to the Camaro's, split LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a redesigned rear bumper.

Regardless of the trim, every 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is powered by the same 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder as the 2021 model. Paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox, this unit generates 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Due to a lack of demand, the 2021 model's more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo rated at 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque has been dropped for the 2022 model. This isn't surprising as the 1.5-liter turbo variant makes up 90 percent of sales for the Equinox.
