Buy Used Cadillac Models

The high-rider body style is among the most popular in the USA, so it comes as no surprise that an SUV from Cadillac may be on your radar. Boasting the same high levels of practicality and safety as the rest of their brethren, 2020 and 2021 Cadillac SUV models are generally more on the premium side of things, with more luxurious interiors, top-tier features, and price tags to match. From the smaller XT4 through to the enormous 7-passenger Escalade, there is a Cadillac crossover to fit most needs. Here some reasons to consider or avoid a new Cadillac SUV:

Pros

  • Good looks and curb appeal
  • Strong, refined engine lineups
  • High-tech features lists
  • Choice of FWD or AWD
  • Spacious and comfortable interiors
  • More luxurious than your average SUV
  • The 2021 Escalade is all-new

Cons

  • Not quite as opulent or refined as European rivals
  • Expensive, especially for the quality

New 2021 Cadillac SUV models

The Cadillac SUV and crossover lineup for 2020 and 2021 is small, but there is still something for everyone. Here are the models on offer:

  • XT4 - Not to be mistaken for the discontinued XTS, the smallest crossover in the lineup relies on a less potent turbocharged four-pot to motor around town. Luckily, its small dimensions and relatively low weight mean that 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque are more than sufficient. The smaller displacement also gives it the best gas mileage in the range, returning 24/30/26 mpg in its most efficient guise.
  • XT5 - The odd brother in the family, the compact crossover receives the same base powertrain as the subcompact, but it also gets access to a higher-performance V6 on the Premium Luxury and Sport trim. The need to upgrade so far just for the necessary oomph to get around quickly is quite a drawback, and that is including the fact that the starting MSRP is already quite high for the segment.
  • XT6 - Slotting just below the full-size juggernaut that is the flagship of the brand, the XT6 is less athletic than the smaller variants and not quite luxurious enough to warrant its cost. Still, it offers a fair amount of power, with easier access to the V6, though the 4,000-pound towing capacity is disappointing in comparison to the competition. Inside, it is spacious enough to host 3 rows of seats, but the build quality and materials are not as upscale as they should be.
  • Escalade - The latest iteration is an all-new Cadillac SUV that tops anything the automaker has ever produced. In fact, it tops almost every competitor on the market. Available in two sizes - the standard form or the extra-length ESV - the prestigious nameplate proves that the US manufacturer has what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the big boys. The interior is enormous, though the ESV more easily fits in the third row, and the materials are immaculate. The sheer amount of tech and the potent V8 power plant earn this car an almost perfect rating in our review.

FAQs

Is Cadillac a good SUV?

There is nothing specifically wrong with crossovers from the brand. That being said, considering the cost of a Cadillac SUV, you do not necessarily get your money’s worth. They are spacious, yes, and come with quite a bit of standard tech. However, you often need to upgrade in order to receive the best features and a powertrain that actually gets your blood pumping. Most European rivals offer similar or better performance specs and features at the same or lower prices.

What is the best Cadillac SUV to buy?

While definitely not the cheapest, the Escalade is by far the best option. It truly lives up to the legacy of the brand, using top-notch materials in its construction, a refined engine under the hood, and loads of ultra-modern tech around the cabin. It also easily seats six or seven passengers in its extended guise, and also has space left over behind for cargo. This all assumes you have $100k to blow.

What is the least expensive Cadillac SUV?

Caddies are not known for their affordability. In fact, it is their higher cost that makes them desirable, since it serves as a symbol of one's superior status. Still, the XT4 is relatively cheap by comparison to the pricier models. The base model will set you back around $36k.
