Leaked: 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Has A Supercar Top Speed

Sports Cars / 18 Comments

It could even be the fastest Corvette ever from the factory.

Having made its debut mere months ago, and with order books allegedly opening soon, people are still going crazy about the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06. This high-performance version of the already impressive C8-generation sports car has caused such a stir that someone recently paid $3.6 million for the very first one, and we've seen dealers putting a $100k markup on these all-American sports cars before they even arrive. While we've been privy to information about what will power the Z06, some information is still as-yet-unpublished, like acceleration figures and top speed. But the latter may have been revealed as someone just spotted something interesting in the car's owner's manual that hints at a 200+ mph V-max.

According to CorvetteBlogger, the owner's manual indicates the correct shifting points according to minimum and maximum speeds. The owner's manual indicates that 188 mph is the maximum speed at which you can downshift from sixth to fifth gear with the seven-speed manual transmission. After sixth, Chevrolet simply indicates aero limitations for downshifting from seventh into sixth. With 188 mph being the minimum downshifting point into fifth gear, we expect that the Z06 will reach its maximum speed in sixth gear, and we have no doubt that this 'Vette has enough power to make up for those missing 12 miles per hour when it's pushed all the way to its 8,600 rpm redline. The fact that the base C8 Stingray can reach an official 194 mph with only 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque is another clear indication that the Z06 should easily crack 200.

Not only is the Z06 more slippery through the air, but it also packs significantly more power than the standard C8 Stingray. Under the engine cover, the new Z06 hides a very special 5.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-plane crank V8 that churns out 670 hp at a screaming 8,400 rpm, and 460 lb-ft of torque at 6,300 rpm. Chevy says that the Z06 will generate 734 pounds of downforce at 186 mph when fitted with the high-mount rear wing and front dive planes and should feel massively stable at high speeds. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is the American supercar we deserve, and we're sure to see these cars fly past the 200 mph mark when the aftermarket tuning scene gets ahold of them, but it will be interesting to see if it can top the current fastest production Chevy Corvette, the Z06 ZR1, which topped out 212 mph.
