BMW is expected to launch a hardcore version of its gorgeous M8 coupe sometime in the very near future. Sources indicate we shouldn't expect many major exterior or interior design changes, but a few tweaks here and there are likely, such as a large rear spoiler and other aero enhancements. The interior will definitely get the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen that's now standard on the facelifted 2023 8 Series lineup. Weight loss is another key goal. Expect to see lighter glass and the rear seat being removed.

The most significant change, however, will take place under the hood. It will reportedly use the same electrified setup as the upcoming X8 M, an SUV that's expected to have a 3.0-liter six-cylinder and electric motors. This setup could produce a combined total of around 700 horsepower. The current M8 Competition, to compare, produces 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8.

We don't know exactly when at this time when BMW plans to launch the M8 CSL (a name change is possible), but there's reason to believe it'll happen sometime in 2022 as part of the M division's 50th anniversary celebration.
