This Is The Maddest Mazda MX-5 Miata You'll See Today

This chrome spaceship will join other wacky and wonderful rides at this weekend's Hot Wheels Legends tour.

The 2022 Hot Wheels Legends Tour is traveling across the country in the search of America's wildest automotive creations. As the team makes its way to Arkansas, Hot Wheels has given us a taste of what we can expect at this weekend's event.

And, judging by the teasers seen below, The Natural State is hiding some incredible custom builds.

Under the eccentric bodywork of the Chrome Spaceship sits the underpinnings of a humble sportscar. Yes, under the amusing design sits the underpinnings of a 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata. We're not quite sure what owner Chris Wollard was going for, but his creation is certainly distinctive. There's a hint of '50s concept car in the aesthetic - although it wouldn't look out of place on The Jetsons, either.

The Nissan Juke doesn't go down well in automotive circles, but owner Jessie Garcia has given his 2012 model some street cred by turning it into a bona fide off-roader.

The crossover rides on chunky all-terrain rubber and has benefitted from what appears to be a substantial suspension lift. Rugged-looking wheel arch extensions lend the Juke some toughness, while orange decals and headlights add some zaniness to the overall look.

Perhaps the third vehicle is the most intriguing; the 1969 Two-Wheeled Wonder Bus is as curious as its name. This chopper draws inspiration from the famed Volkswagen T2 van and features custom bodywork to mirror the iconic boxy design. In an ode to the Californian lifestyle, the Two-Wheeled Wonder Bus wears a roof rack and looks rather fetching in its patinated blue finish.

Lastly, there's the 1929 Ford Roadster by Jim Hardcastle. Like the Nissan 240SX (pictured below) that won the Miami event, this classic hotrod is surprisingly restrained and looks to be in impeccable condition. Simple black paint is uplifted by the retro flame graphics and, while we're not sure about what it's packing under its hood, we're guessing it's quite the rocket.

Of course, these won't be the only cars on display - plenty more can be seen this weekend in Rogers, Arkansas. The winning car will get one step closer to being immortalized in 1:64 toy form. This would be a dream come true for many car enthusiasts with unique rides, but the competition is tough. The clean 240SX will pose a serious threat and so too will Texas Toot, a monster truck based on a little-known Japanese Kei car.

Following this, June 18 and July 9 are the next dates, with events taking place in Atlanta and Detroit, respectively. The global grand finale will take place sometime in November.
