Watch Ken Block Drive The Insane AWD Porsche At Pikes Peak

Video / 2 Comments

We can't wait to see this beast fully unleashed.

The fervor surrounding the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is building as we get closer to the running of the event at the end of this month. So far, Acura has announced that it will be entering its new Integra and we've seen a few privateers make their intentions known too. But one of the more exciting vehicles that we've been looking forward to seeing is the Porsche 911, dubbed Hoonipigasus, that gifted wheelman Ken Block will be participating with. He revealed the vehicle last month with the news that it weighs just over 2,200 pounds and produces 1,400 horsepower. Will it be a handful? You betcha, and that's why testing is so important. Take a look at the video below to see Mr. Block drive his new toy at Pikes Peak for the very first time.

Unsurprisingly, full throttle is off-limits for the foreseeable future. The roads in Colorado are still laced with snow at higher altitudes, and you don't want to bin a custom creation like this on its first outing. The danger of driving at speed on this road at this time of the year is briefly highlighted when we see that one (probably more) of the corners has melted snow nearby and the water has run directly across the road near the apex. The roads are not yet ideal for full slick tires, but we suspect that Block's team was still able to glean insights from this short test.

Sure, the twin-turbo flat-six will need to prove its reliability, but that's what engine dynos are for. This also isn't the first time that the Hoonigan team has evaluated the car. A video posted earlier this week showed the Hoonipigasus testing at Pueblo Motorsports Park near Colorado Springs. This session saw the car start for the first time and focused on making sure the engine was running well and that the suspension was set up properly. Block had a mild off at the circuit due to struggling with snap oversteer, so the data from the track and from Pikes Peak will likely now be consolidated before more testing is done to ensure this wild build doesn't give Block any surprises during the main event, scheduled for Sunday, June 26. With no run-off at Pikes Peak, we hope that any handling issues are resolved ASAP.
